Artist Profile: Monet

Claude Monet was born in Paris, France on November 14, 1840. Adolphe and Louise Monet raised him while managing a grocery store. Claude had one brother by the name of Leon Pascal. Monets decision to become a painter came as a disappointment to his father which made Monet always doubt himself and his work. He attended an art school from 1859 to 1860. After this he began his career. At the beginning of his career Monet struggled to make much money from his work and this led him to consider suicide and increased his self doubt. Monets style mostly consisted with using oil paints to project everyday events he sees. Monet is known for using beautiful lighting and starting the French impressionist movement. Many say this movement is captured in one of his more well known paintings, Impression, Sunrise (1872). Other paintings that include his famous style are Woman with a Parasol (1875), and The water lilly pond (1899). I would like to write about Garden at Sainte-Adresse because I think its captured from a cool perspective. I would also like to write about Haystacks because I ve actually seen those paintings in person.

  1. I've always liked the work of Monet and the other Impressionists...such a dreamy, blurry view of the world that I find comforting.
